SONG OF THE DAY: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE 'BULLS ON PARADE'

13th April. SONG OF THE DAY: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE 'BULLS ON PARADE'

I miss the days of musicians and bands causing controversy on live tv. Using live tv to vocalise their passions and beliefs that got them in to making music in the first place. The biggest controversy we have these days is  Miley Cyrus sticking her tounge out and Kanye West interrupting an award show to declare his love for Beyonce.

Today on 1996 RATM  performed on SNL causing controversy when they attempted to hang inverted American flags from their amplifiers. The stagehands managed to run on stage seconds before going live and tore the flags down, and it resulted in the RATM set being cut form 2 songs to 1. After performing 'Bulls on Parade' the band were immediately escorted out of the studio and building premises. SNL later said in a press release that the reason RATM didn't perform their second song (which was going to be 'Bullet in the Head') was because the show had run on for too long.

The performance has since become quite well known which is why we have selected it for today's SOTD. And if your interested you can read more of 'the incident' here

SONG OF THE DAY: BILL HALEY 'ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK'

12th April. SONG OF THE DAY: BILL HALEY 'ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK'

We have stepped back in history for today's SOTD, because on the 11th April 1954, Bill Haley recorded 'Rock Around The Clock' at Pythian Temple studios in New York City. It is widely considered to be THE SONG that put rock and roll on the map around the world.

But did you know it was a cover? 'Rock Around The Clock' was first recorded by Italian-American band Sonny Dae and His Knights.

Happy listening!
